In his email of 2018-06-12, T. Daniel stated, "74597 images are what is undoubtedly a Justicia, but a species that I do not recognize (new??)". In the Excel sent 2019-03-14, T. Daniel stated, "in a species complex; may eventually prove distinct". In an email of 2019-03-14, T. Daniel noted, "Justicia breviflora 22480, 74597, 86036 (another complex with many variants; this might be one of them, or it might be distinct; I have a file on this complex, but have never resolved the taxonomy; it is okay as J. breviflora for now, but it just might be sufficiently distinct to be recognized as a separate taxon; I need to look at the pollen, etc. will also try to work on this with the other Justicia items noted above)."
